Position in PA [引用]
Chinese Assistant Language Director
Swarthmore / PA

Description
Assistant Language Directors are part of a community that creates an intensive four-week immersion program for middle and high school students each summer. Located on several college campuses, MMLA offers students the opportunity to study Chinese with skilled language educators. The Assistant Language Directors are senior administrators, working in close consultation with the Language Director to implement and appropriately adapt the MMLA curriculum, guidelines, and policies. With the Language Director, they lead a team of experienced educators and Residential Advisors to create a unique immersion academic program.
MMLA follows the traditions and success of the Middlebury College immersion programs and the curriculum development expertise of Monterey Institute of International Studies. All staff and students adopt the Middlebury Language Pledge©, modified as needed for the student age group and language level, so that a full-immersion environment is created.

The Assistant Language Director supports the Language Director with all of their tasks and responsibilities (see Language Director Job Description). However, during the summer, through their leadership and creativity, Assistant Language Director primarily concentrates on ensuring the quality of the “informal Learning” times of the day by working closely with residential life team members to appropriately structure each activity or event. The Assistant Language Director is enthusiastic and supportive, appropriately tasking and training Residential Advisors and the Activity Coordinators in strategies to help students stay in the Language Pledge. The ALD is proactive, can troubleshoot and work well with others to solve problems, with the goal of maintaining a high quality language summer program. The ALD ensures that their language teams are following MMLA curriculum, policies and guidelines. In smaller academies, Assistant Language Directors may have some limited teaching responsibilities.
The Assistant Language Director is required to participate in e two on-line moderated discussions with Academy Teachers and Residential Advisors. The ALD is also expected to review and become familiar with MMLA curriculum, and past-year’s evaluation results.
