何为大学申请时的legacy status(校友优先)?

优先考虑校友的直系亲属(Legacy )政策是从第一次世界大战后出现的。很多名校都会在同等条件下优先录取本校的校友(曾经或现在就读该校)的直系亲属(Legacy )， 如父母，兄弟姐妹在此校毕业或就学。

很多大学对于Legacy入学的影响不是很大(因为校友捐的钱不多)。但所有的藤校以及一些名牌大学就考虑的比较多些， 校友的直系亲属能占新生的10%至30%。因为其学校的运转资金来源主要来自校友 (付全美校友捐钱最多的十所大学)。

其主要原因就是钱。因为所有的藤校，绝大多数的名校都为非润利大学。所以他们的开销与运作主要就是由Legacy 的捐钱而来。名牌大学的毕业生往往比非名牌大学的毕业生做得好。钱赚得多， 当然也就容易给曾经帮助他们的母校捐钱。



让我们这样的来考虑: 一位校友， 从名校毕业后， 每年捐给母校100万美金。如果他的孩子被其母校拒绝了。他/她还会继续向母校捐钱吗? 如果这一家庭的几代人都捐。不采取这政策。藤校名校的钱又从何而来?

所以看大学好不好，划算不划算。看校友的捐款额也能看出些道道来。
