【原创电影剧本英文版】

Two SISTERS from the Convent enter, bringing baskets loaded with varieties of supplies. Yurovsky approaches them to examine the baskets. He takes out meat, milk, butter, pastries, breads and fruits, shaking his head to show disapproval.

YUROVSKY (CONT'D)

Too much, too abundant. You should be rationed like all ordinary citizens. No one may eat more than a quarter pound of meat per day. Nicholas must live just as does everyone else.

The Sisters appear perplexed and hurry out of the room.

YUROVSKY (CONT'D)

Listen, from now on, you must be ready for roll at eight o'clock every morning.

ALEXANDRA

Why must we get up so early?

YUROVSKY

I need to verify the presence of all my prisoners the first thing in each morning. So, you must be up by eight for roll.

ALEXANDRA

In case I can't, or am not willing to?

YUROVSKY

I'll get no choice but have to go into your bedroom to get you up by myself.

INT. NICHOLAS' BEDROOM -- DAY

Yurovsky supervises two guards install a heavy iron grate over the single open window. The railings are attached to the outside of the window frame.

ALEXANDRA

What are you doing? Why do you hoist such ugly heavy railings to my only open window? It's so awful.

YUROVSKY

I'm told that you frequently stand in front of this window to look out onto the square and to wave at people in hopes of being seen. Listen, you're forbidden to continue such behavior.

Alexandra grips her handkerchief, her hands trembling.

ALEXANDRA

(crying hysterically)

You're frightful of our climbing out. You're coward. You pervert.

All of a sudden, they are stunned by SOUND of artillery fire, followed by revolver shots in the distance.

INT. BATHROOM -- DAY

Nicholas soaks in the bathtub, using a foaming liquid. A knock on the door annoys him.

INT. CORRIDOR -- DAY

Yurovsky, as a snooper, stands at the door, pricks up his ears, and then forcibly knocks on the door.

YUROVSKY

(roaring)

Hey, you can't spend hours having a bath. Our hot water supply is limited. We don't even have enough water to drink. I forbid you to do that.

Anastasia tiptoes past Yurovsky, putting out her tongue and thumbs her nose at his back.

EXT. EKATERINBURG -- URAL -- SIBERIA -- JULY 16 -- DAY

Dark CLOUDS hang scattered across the Siberian sky. THUNDERSTORMS engulf the Urals. The SOUND of artillery fire rumbles.

In a torrent of RAIN, streetcars and motorcars shuffle along the uneven roads. The hoofs of horses splash mud onto the mounted Red Army soldiers, weary and grim.

INT. CHEKA HEADQUARTERS -- HOTEL AMERIKA -- DAY

The Ural Bolshevik officers sit clustered round the baize-topped table, listening with a depressed silence as Goloshchokin delivers a report. Sasha serves tea and stands by.

GOLOSHCHOKIN

You're summoned to this urgent meeting to know that uh, with the main railroad lines cut, and the Trans-Siberian Railroad in the hands of the White and Czech forces, the fall of Ekaterinburg is within a couple of days. We'd never give the monarchists any opportunity to rescue their sovereign. Considering all of these circumstances, we've passed unanimously the decree of the Ural Executive Committee of the Soviet of Worker, Peasant and Red Army Deputies. Possessing information that Czechoslovak bands are threatening the Red capital of the Urals, Ekaterinburg, and bearing in mind that the crowned hangman could hide and escape the people's tribunal, the Executive Committee, carrying out the will of the people, has decreed to execute the former Tsar Nicholas Romanov, guilty of countless bloody crimes. Implementation of the decree is entrusted to Yakov Yurovsky. It's decided to act tonight. Comrade Yurovsky is assigned to execute the task.

YUROVSKY

It's my honor to be assigned to execute the task, Sir. But uh, their servants should be spared. What's the reason to kill them? As to the kitchen boy, Leonid Sednev, he is only a fourteen-year-old playmate for Alexei.

GOLOSHCHOKIN

Okay, we'll spare the kitchen boy. The remaining prisoners, Dr. Botkin, Anna Demidova, Ivan Kharitonov, and Alexei Trupp are condemned to death along with the Romanovs.

Goloshchokin looks at a MAN sitting by his side and pats him on the shoulder.

GOLOSHCHOKIN (CONT'D)

Comrade Ermakov, you're a lucky man chosen to execute and bury the prisoners in such a way that no one ever finds their bodies. Assume your responsibility. We entrust to you as a reliable veteran revolutionary.

The other comrades stand up, clap their hands and shake hands with ERMAKOV who is tall and broadly built, with an unkempt mane of black hair and dark eyes.

ERMAKOV

(glowering)

I'll spare no efforts in fulfilling the onerous revolutionary duty.
